Kingston Lake State Forest Campground Reopens

The Department of Natural Resources announced that Kingston Lake State Forest Campground, located 16 miles northeast of Melstrand in Alger County, has been reopened for use.

County Road H-58 will continue to be closed from Kingston Lake State Forest Campground to Grand Marais while road construction continues. Access to the campground is only possible via H-58 from the south. This routing will remain in effect through the rest of the 2009 camping season.

Questions regarding access to the campground may be directed to Shingleton Unit Manager Jeff Stampfly at (906) 452-6227, ext. 240.

Information regarding other camping, ORV riding, or hiking opportunities in Alger and Northern Schoolcraft counties may be found on the DNR's Web site at www.michigandnr.com/parksandtrails, or by calling the DNR Newberry Operations Service Center at (906) 293-5131, ext. "0" for the operator.
