Aug. 14, 2009

The Department of Natural Resources has announced that Presque Isle State Harbor boating access site located in Presque Isle County will undergo paving improvements and site re-development beginning the week of Aug. 17. Construction is expected to last two weeks. Upgrades will include asphalt paving, improved vehicular circulation and barrier-free accessibility.

Construction activities will necessitate closure of the site for safety reasons for the two week period. The improvements will benefit site users by providing a more efficient use of parking space, as well as enhanced accessibility for persons with mobility impairments.

This project is funded through the Michigan State Waterways Fund, a restricted fund derived from boat registration fees and the Michigan marine fuel tax for the construction, operation and maintenance of recreational boating facilities, harbors and inland waterways.

For more information, contact Tom Paquin at the Cheboygan Field Office at (231) 627-9011.

The DNR is committed to the conservation, protection, management, use and enjoyment of the state's natural resources
for current and future generations.
