Smoother ride ahead on I-96 in Grand Rapids

ESTIMATED COMPLETION DATE: Friday, Oct. 30, 2009

PROJECT: A $3.7 million investment on I-96 begins this Sunday in Grand Rapids, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT). Twenty-four miles of this major east west corridor will be resurfaced from Bristol Avenue to 28th Street. This project includes a three year pavement performance warranty.

TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS: Nightly lane closures will be in effect on I-96 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday through Friday. Ramp closures also will take place overnight at the interchanges of Alpine Avenue, US-131, Plainfield Avenue, Leonard Street, M-37, Cascade Avenue and 28th Street. When ramps are closed, the next interchange will be open and utilized for the detour route.

CUSTOMER BENEFIT: This project will improve the roadway surface and increase the ride quality while extending the service life.
