An Illinois man recently was arraigned in 60th District Court in Muskegon County on an eight-count warrant of illegally purchasing fish and game and for purchasing resident fishing licenses as a nonresident.
Brian Palazzolo, 50, of Aurora, Illinois, was arrested in August following a five-month covert investigation by the Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division's Special Investigation Unit for allegedly purchasing wild fish and game in the Muskegon area, where Palazzolo has a second residence.
Palazzolo was charged with three counts of illegal purchases of sport caught fish, two counts of illegal purchases of wildlife and three counts of illegal purchases of resident fishing licenses when a nonresident. Magistrate John Wiewiora issued an $18,500 cash bond on Palazzolo, and a jury trial is set for Oct. 19 before Judge Michael J. Nolan.
All charges are misdemeanors and Palazzolo could face up to 90 days in jail for each charge. The fines range from $250 to $1,000 for each charge and loss of fishing and hunting licenses for the year of conviction, plus the following three years.
Citizens are encouraged to contact the Report All Poaching Hotline at 800-292-7800 with any information regarding the illegal take or commercialization of Michigan fish or wildlife.
