MPSC Says Alger Delta Cooperative Electric Association Meets Requirements for Member Regulation

Contact:  Judy Palnau (517) 241-3323

September 15, 2009

The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) today said Alger Delta Cooperative Electric Association is entitled to transition to member-regulation, as permitted by Public Act 167 of 2008, also known as the Electric Cooperative Member-Regulation Act.  The utility will begin member-regulation on Sept. 27.

The utility's board on June 25 adopted a resolution to become member-regulated.

On August 11, the MPSC directed the utility and the MPSC staff to begin meetings to discuss issues related to the transition and to establish an orderly process for the transition.

In today's determination the MPSC said that the electric cooperative has met all of the prerequisites for exercising the authority over its rates, charges, accounting standards, billing practices, and terms and conditions of service.

The utility said it will continue to use the existing Commission-approved rates and charges until new ones are approved by the cooperative.

The MPSC is an agency within the Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth.
