Business and community representatives
Project contractor
Interested public

WHEN: Friday, Sept. 25, 2009
1 p.m.

WHERE: The ceremony will be held at 1473 Transportation Drive in Harrison, which is past the current facility at 4175 N. Clare Ave. The new road is between the current facility and Airport Parkway. Watch for directional signs on the day of the dedication.

For special accommodations: 989-539-1474

BACKGROUND: Work on the new facility is expected to start in September, with an expected completion date of summer, 2010. The building will be approximately 44,000 square feet and will contain storage space for 40 buses, dispatch, maintenance and administration. The current building is not sufficient to house the entire fleet of buses. Housing the buses inside will protect them from the elements and reduce fuel consumption by cutting the idle time needed to warm the buses during the winter. Many energy-saving ideas and materials will be used to make the building "green."

The new construction is expected to benefit the economy of the Harrison area and Clare County.

The project is funded with $2.5 million in ARRA grants, and $1.2 million in Capital Discretionary Program grants.

MDOT: Working with our partners at airports, bus systems, marine and rail to find innovative solutions for Michigan's transportation systems.
