Just when you thought the camping season was coming to a close, Aloha State Park is giving campers another reason to "GO-Get Outdoors" and enjoy one of the best times of the year.
Aloha's annual Harvest Festival is a weekend event, kicking off on Friday, Oct. 2. Campers are encouraged to start decorating their campsite on Friday in preparation for the haunted campsite contest.
On Saturday, Oct. 3, events will include a costume contest, pumpkin painting contest, a chili cook-off and trick-or-treating for the kids. Prizes will be awarded for the best haunted house built on a campsite, with first place taking home a stainless steel gas grill worth $300 that has been donated by Sears of Cheboygan.
Trick-or-treating will be held Saturday evening from 6-8 p.m. Park roads will be closed to all traffic during these hours, making it a safe and fun place for all children and ghouls. The public is welcome to attend the trick-or-treating event.
Sunday morning will start off with coffee and donuts at the campground host site at 9 a.m. The winner of the best haunted house site will be announced around 10 a.m.
"With fall colors almost at peak and the long winter ahead of us, the Harvest Festival is a great way to extend the summer," said Aloha State Park Supervisor Jeremy Spell. "Before you put the camper away for the winter, come out for a unique camping trip. It's so much fun, it's scary!"
Aloha State Park would like to thank this year's sponsors: The Aloha Camp Store, Sears of Cheboygan, K-Mart of Cheboygan, Great Lakes Meat Market, The Cheboygan Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourist Bureau, Fernelius Toyota-Chrysler-Dodge, Glen's Market, and The Cannonball Inn on Mackinac Island.
Aloha State Park is located at 4347 Third St., six miles south of Cheboygan.
