Media Invited to Hispanic Celebration on Tues, Sept. 29 in Lansing

September 28, 2009 - Media representatives are invited to attend a celebration of Hispanic and Latino culture that will take place in Lansing on Tuesday, September 29th. The events include a Student Summit at Lansing Community College, Lunch & Festivities on the Capitol lawn followed by an evening Recognition Dinner at the Causeway Bay Hotel.

The festivities are part of Michigan's recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month celebrated nationally September 15 - October 15. The events are a coordinated by the Michigan Hispanic Caucus, co-chaired by Senator Valde Garcia and Representatives Lee Gonzales and John Espinoza; the Capital Area Cesar E. Chavez Commission; the Commission on Spanish-Speaking Affairs; Lansing Community College; and Comcast.

9:35-10:50am   Keynote Address, Ruben Gonzalez (Three-time Olympian and National Luge Champion)

11:00 am         Dismiss to Capitol lawn

11:30am          Welcome by Senator Valde Garcia, State Representative Lee Gonzales &
                       State Representative John Espinoza

11:35am-1 pm  Lunch and festivities on Capitol lawn

Recognition and Chavez Commemorative Dinner
5:00pm            Reception with hors d'oeuvres and cash bar, Causeway Bay Hotel

6:00pm            Dinner

7:45pm            Keynote Speaker: Ruben Gonzalez

8:15-8:30pm     Presentation of Awards & Scholarships
