The Department of Natural Resources will close Deer Lake Boating Access Site (BAS) in Charlevoix County and Eastport BAS in Antrim County on Torch Lake for construction in October.
Deer Lake will close on Thursday, Oct. 8, for the replacement of the concrete ramp planks and a skid pier. The ramp construction at Deer Lake will take approximately one week.
Eastport BAS will close on Oct. 19 for the replacement of the concrete ramp and to extend the length of the ramp. Construction is scheduled to be completed on Oct. 29. Other access sites on Torch Lake include Sand Point, Torch River Bridge and Helena Township.
The scheduled upgrades will increase accessibility and make using the ramps more convenient for boaters. These projects are funded through the Michigan State Waterways Fund, a restricted fund derived from boat registration fees and the Michigan marine fuel tax for the construction, operation and maintenance of recreational boating facilities, harbors and inland waterways.
During the closures, boaters are encouraged to use the Michigan Recreation Boating Information System online at www.mcgi.state.us/MRBIS to locate other launch sites.
