Seven Lakes State Park, in partnership with the Izaak Walton League of America, is hosting the 45th annual Ice Fishing Derby on Saturday, Feb. 13, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Area residents and visitors are encouraged to participate, bring the entire family, and dress warm for a day filled with fun. This is a great way to "GO-Get Outdoors," try ice fishing, have fun and enjoy the outdoors. Prizes will be awarded for the biggest fish, the most fish, the smallest fish and even the ugliest fish. Refreshments will also be available at the concession/shelter building.
Seven Lakes State Park is located at 14390 Fish Lake Rd. in Holly. For more information about this event, the park, accessibility, or persons needing accommodations to attend this event, contact the park supervisor at 248-634-7271 (TTY/TDD711 Michigan Relay Center for the hearing impaired), or visit the park's Web site at www.michigandnr.gov/sevenlakes. For information about the Izaak Walton League of America, visit www.iwla.org.
The Department of Natural Resources and Environment would also like to remind everyone that Feb. 13-14 is Michigan's Winter Free Fishing Weekend, so fishing licenses are not required, but all fishing regulations will apply.
All motor vehicles entering a state park or recreation area must display a 2010 Motor Vehicle Permit, available for purchase at the entrance. Cost is $24 for a resident annual and $6 for a resident daily. A non-resident annual is $29 and a non-resident daily is $8.
"GO-Get Outdoors" is a series of continuous, special events designed to encourage all people, especially families, to take advantage of the many outdoor recreational opportunities that are available in this Great State. For a list of events taking place at Michigan state parks, recreation areas and boating sites, visit the Get Outdoor Calendar at www.michigan.gov/dnrgogetoutdoors.
