The Michigan Department of Human Services, Bureau of Children and Adult Licensing (BCAL) issued an order of summary suspension and amended notice of intent to revoke the license of a Kent County child care center provider, Jodie Robertson, #DC410262239, 2429 Eastern Avenue SE, Grand Rapids, Mich. This action resulted from a recent investigation of a complaint of the child care center.
The January 11, 2010, complaint investigation found violations of the Child Care Organizations Act and administrative rules regarding caregiver suitability and supervision of children. BCAL took emergency action to protect the health, welfare, and safety of children.
Effective 6:00 p.m., January 22, 2010, the summary suspension order prohibits Jodie Robertson from operating a child care center at 2429 Eastern Avenue SE, Grand Rapids, Mich., or at any other address or location. Accordingly, she may not accept children for care after that date and time. The order also requires Ms. Robertson to inform all of the parents of children in her care that her license has been suspended and that she can no longer provide child care.
Ms. Robertson has held a license to operate a child care center since January 20, 2004. The license was for 60 children.
Michigan law defines a child care center as "a facility, other than a private residence, receiving 1 or more preschool or school-age children for care for periods of less than 24 hours a day, where the parents or guardians are not immediately available to the child. Child care center includes a facility that provides care for not less than 2 consecutive weeks, regardless of the number of hours of care per day. The facility is generally described as a child care center, day care center, day nursery, nursery school, parent cooperative preschool, play group, before- or after-school program, or drop-in center . . ."
