The Michigan Natural Resources Commission (NRC) will meet on Thursday,
Feb. 4, at the Diagnostic Center for Population and Animal Health,
located at 4125 Beaumont Rd. in Lansing.
Prior to the meeting of the Committee of the Whole, the NRC Policy
Committee on Wildlife and Fisheries will meet at 10:30 a.m. The
committee will hear a presentation of a classification system for
streams in Michigan, receive an update on emerging issues in the
Wildlife and Fisheries divisions, review proposed changes to falconry
regulations, hear updates on the recent bear season, on Chronic Wasting
Disease (CWD) surveillance and testing, and on the predator/prey
research project in the Upper Peninsula. The committee also will
consider proposed regulation changes related to dog tracking.
At 1:30 p.m., the NRC Committee of the Whole will meet in the
conference room. The committee will receive an update from Department of
Natural Resources and Environment Director Rebecca Humphries on the DNRE
transition, and NRC Chair Keith Charters will lead a discussion on how
the NRC will interact with the new agency. There also will be a
legislative update and a monthly spend plan update, as well as a
presentation about changes made to equestrian camping at the Ionia State
Recreation Area. At approximately 4 p.m., the Wildlife Division and
Director Humphries will present the winners of the 2010 Pure Michigan
Hunt drawing.
Public appearances before the commission start at 4:30 p.m. Persons

The only agenda item eligible for NRC action at this meeting is the
proposed regulation changes for tracking legally shot game animals.
Action items eligible for DNRE Director Rebecca Humphries' approval
include two different orders for underground gas storage leases, an
updated underground natural gas storage lease and leasing procedures
order, an updated nonmetallic mineral salt lease and nonmetallic mineral
leasing procedures, and authorizing several land transactions.
