BACKGROUND: On Feb. 17, 2009, President Obama signed into law the ARRA legislation that obligated $847 million in federal funding to help rebuild Michigan's infrastructure.
One of Michigan's many ARRA projects, M-59, between Crooks and Ryan roads, is a $50 million project that created or preserved 1,482 jobs, and is a long-term investment in this major commuter and east-west connector route between Macomb and Oakland counties. This area also supports many high-tech research and manufacturing facilities.
Work began last July and M-59 is expected to be fully open to traffic in November.
