Bewabic State Park, in the Upper Peninsula, invites cross-country skiers to "GO-Get Outdoors" and participate in an evening of candlelight skiing on Friday, Feb. 26, between 6 and 8 p.m. CST.

This event includes one and one-half miles of groomed cross-country skiing by candlelight, and the trail is also track-set for the traditional cross-country skier. Visitors can also warm themselves by a fire in the day use shelter.

"One and a half miles of the cross-country ski trail will be illuminated by candle lit luminaries," said Park Supervisor Robert Strittmatter. "Snowshoe users are also welcome to attend this event; however, we just ask that they stay off the tracks set for the cross-country skiers."

Interested parties are encouraged to call the park ahead of time to check on trail conditions and updates. If it is necessary to cancel this event, the park will notify the local radio station, WIKB at 99.1.

Bewabic State Park is located at 720 Idlewild Rd., four miles west of Crystal Falls on US-2. The trailhead is located at the south end of the day use parking lot. For more information about this event, the park, accessibility, or persons needing accommodations to attend this event, contact the park supervisor at 906-875-3324 (TTY/TDD711 Michigan Relay Center for the hearing impaired) or visit the park's Web site at www.michigan.gov/bewabic.
