Harrison Township resident Laura Sierpien went the extra mile for clients and coworkers and earned an award from the Family Independence Agency.

Sierpien, a family independence specialist with Macomb County Family Independence Agency in Warren, was one of 15 agency employees around the state honored for good work, teamwork and providing quality service. Sierpien received the agency director's "Going the Extra Mile" award during a ceremony Dec. 14. She has worked for the FIA for 20 years.

"Laura is a caring employee with indispensable problem-solving skills," said Family Independence Agency director Marianne Udow. "She is extensively involved in volunteerism and manages details of the office community giving program."

The Going the Extra Mile Program was started in 2003. Award winners were nominated by peers and/or managers and were selected through a regional process.
