Contact:  Stepheni Schlinker or Maureen Sorbet (517) 373-7394
Agency: Human Services

December 14, 2004

Eastpointe resident James Gura went the extra mile for clients and coworkers and earned an award from the Family Independence Agency.

Gura, a family independence specialist with Wayne County FIA Gratiot-7 Mile District in Detroit, was one of 15 agency employees around the state honored for good work, teamwork and providing quality service. Gura received the agency director's "Going the Extra Mile" award during a ceremony Dec. 14. He has worked for the FIA for 20 years.

"James is strongly committed to client service," said Family Independence Agency director Marianne Udow. "He is a resource for his coworkers and began a support group for clients."

The Going the Extra Mile Program was started in 2003. Award winners were nominated by peers and/or managers and were selected through a regional process.
