Ms. Joy McAlvey and Governor Jennifer Granholm

A very happy birthday to Mrs. Joy McAlvey, the 4th oldest living State of Michigan retiree! Born in Montcalm County, Michigan, on April 10, 1902, the former Joy Curch began her career as a teacher, and was a graduate of Central Michigan University. Joy married Carl McAlvey in 1931 and they had four children. She went to work for the State of Michigan in 1952, retiring from the Liquor Control Commission in 1965. Joy and Carl moved to Florida after retirement, where they lived for more than 35 years. Carl died in 1998, and Joy returned to Michigan in 2004. Mrs. McAlvey has 14 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 15 great, great grandchildren.
