MDOT to begin work on US-31 in Pentwater on Sept. 15

Contact:  Julie Hurley 269-208-7829
Agency: Transportation

COUNTY: Oceana County

HIGHWAY: US-31

CLOSEST VILLAGE: Pentwater

ESTIMATED STARTING DATE: Monday, Sept. 15, 2008

ESTIMATED COMPLETION DATE: Early November 2008

PROJECT: The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will be milling and resurfacing 4 miles of US-31 from the North Branch of the Pentwater River north to the Oceana/Mason County line. Work also includes drainage improvements, concrete pavement repairs and safety upgrades.

TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS: During this work, at least one lane of traffic in each direction will be open on US-31 at all times. To accommodate tourism traffic, all lanes will be open on northbound US-31 from 3 p.m. on Fridays, to 6 a.m. on Mondays, and on southbound US-31 from 8 p.m. on Saturdays to 6 a.m. on Sundays.

The on ramp from the US-31 Business Route (Oceana Drive) to southbound US-31 and the northbound off ramp from US-31 to US-31 Business Route will be closed for a maximum of two weeks to facilitate ramp improvements. Detours will be posted for each closure.

CUSTOMER BENEFIT: This $5.1 million project, advanced as part of Gov. Jennifer M. Granholm's 2008 economic stimulus package, will provide a smoother ride for motorists and extend the service life of this roadway.
