WHAT: The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) invites the public to attend a public information meeting regarding 2009 and 2010 road and bridge construction work on I-675 in Saginaw County. Work begins in Buena Vista Township at the highway's southern junction with I-75 and extends north through the city of Saginaw, and Zilwaukee, Saginaw, and Kochville townships at the northern junction. North- and southbound highway closures will alternate during the consecutive construction seasons.
I-675 southbound construction begins in March 2009. Southbound lanes will be closed, with traffic detoured to I-75 southbound to I-675 northbound. Motorists can access local destinations from northbound I-675. This work is expected to be completed by November 2009. I-675 northbound traffic will remain on I-675 northbound lanes.
No work on I-675 or local bridges is expected during winter 2009-2010.
I-675 northbound construction begins in March 2010. Northbound lanes will be closed, with traffic detoured to I-75 northbound to I-675 southbound. Motorists can access local destinations from southbound I-675. This work is expected to be completed by November 2010. I-675 southbound traffic will remain on I-675 southbound lanes.
During construction, signs will alert motorists to detours and lane closures on local roads above and below I-675.

BACKGROUND: MDOT will invest $55 million in this project, which includes concrete pavement repairs on mainline I-675 and the interchange ramps. Bridge overlay and rehabilitation work on multiple bridges is scheduled, along with deck replacement on the Henry Marsh bridge. In addition, shoulder trenching and paving, culvert and guardrail replacement, freeway signing and lighting replacement, and drainage and safety improvements will be completed.
The pedestrian bridge over I-675 at 11th Street also is scheduled to be removed; and the pedestrian bridge over 21st Street will be removed and replaced during construction. Sidewalk improvements along Wadsworth and Fitzhugh streets between 6th and 14th streets are also planned.
Interested residents and business owners are invited to stop by anytime during the open-house-style meeting to view displays and learn more about the proposed plans for I-675 corridor improvements. The purpose of these improvements is to increase traffic safety and improve the overall condition of this highway. Public input is sought to help MDOT recognize and address any concerns. MDOT staff members will be available to answer questions.
