Contact:  James Lake 906-786-1830, ext. 323
Agency: Transportation

COUNTY: Alger

HIGHWAY: M-28

CLOSEST CITY: Christmas

ESTIMATED STARTING DATE: Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008

ESTIMATED COMPLETION DATE: Friday, Oct. 31, 2008

PROJECT: The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will be repaving 6 miles of M-28 through the town of Christmas. The project will also include the conversion of the four-lane roadway to three lanes, with one through-traffic lane in each direction and a center left-turn lane. This $1.6 million project is part of Gov. Jennifer M. Granholm's economic stimulus package, which accelerated $13.6 million in Superior Region road and bridge projects in 2008, to create an estimated 197 jobs in the Upper Peninsula.

TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS: This project will require temporary lane closures with flag control.

CUSTOMER BENEFIT: When completed, this project will improve ride quality, extend pavement life, promote smooth traffic flow and allow easier turning for motorists.
