MDOT to begin construction next week on M-36 at Pettys Road in Hamburg Township

Contact:  Kari Arend, MDOT Office of Communications, 517-750-0406
Agency: Transportation

July 1, 2009 -- Starting next week, work to add a center-turn lane on M-36 near Pettys Road is expected to begin. Other improvements include signal upgrades at the intersection and improvements to M-36 just east of the intersection.

The week after the Fourth of July holiday, crews will begin construction with intermittent single-lane closures and shoulder closures along M-36.

To facilitate the pavement repairs on M-36, a two-week total closure of the highway will be needed. The full closure is anticipated to start on Tuesday, July 14, with the roadway expected to reopen by Monday, July 27.

The contractor, Pamar Enterprises of New Haven, will be assessed penalties of $10,000 a day for each day over the 14-day time frame with the detour to ensure the roadway reopens on schedule.

Once the roadway reopens, one lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction on M-36 for the remainder of the project. Traffic on Pettys Road will be maintained at all times.

All work on this $920,000 project is expected to be completed in late August, prior to the beginning of the school year.

For up-to-date information on this project, go to the list of statewide lane closures at: www.michigan.gov/drive.
