MDOT to resurface 1.7 miles of I-75 near Mighty Mac

Contact:  Bob Felt, MDOT Office of Communications, 989-619-7963
Agency: Transportation

July 8, 2009 -- Beginning July, 13, 2009, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will begin milling and resurfacing nearly 2 miles of I-75 from M-108 to the Mackinac Bridge. Work on the $495,000 road improvement project will be ongoing until early August in Cheboygan and Emmet counties.

"One lane of traffic on each side of the freeway will be maintained during the work," said Bill Wahl, delivery engineer for MDOT's Transportation Service Center in Grayling. "The ramps will be open during construction because the crews will only work on half at a time."

Motorists are urged to drive through the work zone with extra caution. Last year, 13 people died in road construction work zones in Michigan. However, none of those fatalities involved workers.

"When traveling in a work zone, more people need to pay closer attention because the life they save could be their own," added Wahl.
