Intersection improvements on US-31 start Monday

Contact:  John Richard, MDOT Office of Communications, 616-451-4063
Agency: Transportation

COUNTY: Ottawa

HIGHWAY: US-31

CLOSEST CITIES: Holland and Grand Haven

ESTIMATED STARTING DATE: Monday, July 6, 2009

ESTIMATED COMPLETION DATE: Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009

PROJECT: The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will be making safety and mobility improvements to the intersections of US-31 at Stanton Street and US-31 at Fillmore Street, respectively. The project will eliminate conflicting direct left turns and through- traffic on Stanton and Fillmore Streets.

TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS: The work will require single-lane and shoulder closures on US-31, with lane closures taking place during non-peak hours only. Stanton Street will be closed west of US-31, Monday, July 6, with a posted detour on Fillmore Street and 160th Avenue. Upon opening Stanton Street in mid-August, Fillmore Street will be closed and Stanton Street will be utilized for the detour.

CUSTOMER BENEFIT: The indirect left turns will greatly increase the safety of both intersections, as well as improve mobility by relieving congestion.

MDOT: Working to improve our state roads and bridges.
