M-37 improvements start in Newaygo County

Contact:  John Richard, MDOT Office of Communications, 616-451-4063
Agency: Transportation

COUNTY: Newaygo

HIGHWAY: M-37

CLOSEST CITIES: Newaygo and White Cloud

ESTIMATED STARTING DATE: Tuesday, July 7, 2009

ESTIMATED COMPLETION DATE: Friday, Oct. 16, 2009

PROJECT: The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will resurface nearly 9 miles of M-37 from the Muskegon River Bridge in Newaygo north to the south city limits of White Cloud. The intersections at 40th and 8th avenues will be widened to add center left-turn lanes as well.

TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS: Widening the intersections at 40th and 8th avenues will be completed by shifting M-37 traffic onto the shoulder. This will allow one lane of traffic in each direction to be maintained at all times. Resurfacing M-37 will start in August, and traffic will be maintained with flag control and shoulder closures.

CUSTOMER BENEFIT: Motorists will benefit from the improved driving surface and the extended service life of the road. This $2.5 million project also will increase safety and improve traffic flow with the widening of the intersections.

MDOT: Working to improve our state roads and bridges.
