Walker Tavern Historic Site will host its annual "Walker On Wheels" car show, featuring cars and trucks built before 1959, on Saturday, Aug. 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visitors will have the chance to view vintage vehicles in a historic setting, hear stories about the cars and where they have been, and tour the site's historic tavern and barn.

Walker Tavern was a popular stagecoach stop in the mid-1800s and a roadside attraction since the early years of automotive travel. The barn features vehicles that predated the automobile ? a buckboard, covered wagon, and stagecoach.

General admission to the car show and tours of Walker Tavern are free. The Biscuit Babes will provide diner-style food, including burgers and root beer floats. Grills and picnic tables are available for those who want to bring their own food.

Anyone interested in entering a vintage car or truck in the show may call (517) 467-4401 for a registration form and more information, or they may register on-site the day of the show. Gates will open at 9 a.m. The entry fee is $10, and the first 100 cars to register will receive commemorative dash plaques.

The Friends of Walker Tavern, Michigan Historical Museum, the Michigan Department of History, Arts and Libraries, and MotorCities National Heritage Area support Walker On Wheels 2008.

Walker Tavern Historic Site is located next to the Michigan International Speedway, at the junction of M-50 and U.S. 12 southern Michigan's Irish Hills region. Regular hours are Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
