Holland State Park Hosting Open House Dec. 22 Featuring Two New Camper Cabins

Agency: Natural Resources

Dec. 9, 2009

Holland State Park will host an open house on Tuesday, Dec. 22, from 3 to 5 p.m., to feature two new camper cabins in the park -- the Whitetail and the Beacon.

Each cabin will be open for park visitors to walk through. Park staff will be present to answer questions and offer refreshments, and the 2010 annual motor vehicle permits will be available to purchase for themselves or for those in need of a great holiday gift idea.

The Beacon and Whitetail camper cabins both sleep up to six people, have heat and electricity, microwaves and refrigerators. They are both located in the Beach Campground and have excellent views of the lighthouse and access to fishing on the channel. The winter months are a great time to rent a cabin, do some cross-country skiing and see the floating pack ice on Lake Michigan. Summer provides access to the beach, swimming, hiking and boating at Holland State Park.

Park visitors also can enter a drawing for a free, one-night stay at one of the new camper cabins in 2010, based on availability.

The cabins rent for $80 per night from May 1 to Sept. 30. In the off-season, from Oct. 1 to April 30, the rate is reduced to $60 per night.

Reservations for both cabins are now being accepted for dates up to one year in advance. Many openings are still available in 2010, and reservations can be made online at www.midnrreservations.com, or by calling the DNR central reservation system at 800-447-2757.

Holland State Park is located at 2215 Ottawa Beach Rd. in Holland. Holland State Park has a year-round alcohol ban. Pets (except for service animals) and smoking are not permitted in any state-owned building. For more information about this event, the park, the cabins or accessibility, contact the park supervisor at (616) 399-9390 (TTY/TDD 711 Michigan Relay Center for the hearing impaired) or visit www.michigan.gov/holland.

All motor vehicles entering a state park or recreation area must display a Motor Vehicle Permit, available for purchase at the park entrance. Cost is $24 for a resident annual and $6 for a resident daily. A nonresident annual is $29 and a nonresident daily is $8.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is committed to the conservation, protection, management, accessible use and enjoyment of the State's natural resources for current and future generations.
