Dec. 10, 2009

The Department of Natural Resources today announced that the deer check station located at the East Tawas State Harbor Dock in East Tawas would be open on weekends through December and on Saturday, Jan. 2, to continue to collect deer heads for testing for bovine tuberculosis.

The station is located at 113 Newman St/US 23, and will be open Dec. 12-14, 19-21, 26-28 and Jan. 2 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The DNR encourages hunters who take a deer in Iosco County to visit the check station so Wildlife Division staff can collect the deer head and other biological information from the animal.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is committed to the conservation, protection, management, accessible use and enjoyment of the State's natural resources for current and future generations.
