The music style called "rock and roll" began in the 1950s. Michiganians were there from it's beginnings and contributed to its growth. The Winter 2007-08 issue of Michigan History for Kids tells stories about Michigan's contributions to the music industry.

Great stories from this issue include:
- The Motown Sound
- The Beatles Come to Detroit
- Five Decades of Bob Seger
- Michigan's biggest outdoor music festival
- Madonna's many talents

As always, readers will find a quiz, "I Spy" activity and some places to visit to learn more about the rock and roll story.
