Fire Marshal Warns Michigan Consumers About Hazardous Air Fresheners

JANUARY 11, 2005 – The State Fire Marshal today warns Michigan consumers about potentially hazardous air fresheners manufactured by Chuan HWA Art Industry Co., Ltd., which may pose a risk of fire or electric shock.

“A product safety certification organization found that the scented oil in these units could flow into the wall outlet, which poses a risk of fire and electric shock,” said Andy Neumann, State Fire Marshal. “Consumers should stop using the air fresheners immediately and return them to the place of purchase.”

Underwriters Laboratories Inc. includes in its warning models AN-01 (Gardenia), AN-02 (Snowman) and AN-03 (Rose). The units were manufactured between November 2002 and September 2004 and carry date codes representing the month and year of manufacture. For example, the code 01/04 represents January 2004.
