December 21, 2005 -- More than $60 million in road improvements made during the Michigan Department of Transportation's (MDOT) fiscal year 2005 have improved mobility and safety in Oakland County.
"The completion of the new interchanges on I-96 at Beck Road, and on M-59 at Adams Road, is proving to be beneficial in terms of mobility and its impact on the local economies," said Paul Ajegba, manager of MDOT's Oakland County Transportation Service Center in Waterford Township. "Our investment is a well-balanced program designed to preserve existing infrastructure and enhance all modes of transportation."
The following improvements were completed during the 2005 construction season.
• Mill and resurface 23 miles of southbound I-75 from US-23 in Flint to M-15 in Clarkston.
• The replacement of the M-15 bridge over I-75. The new $5 million structure features a dedicated non-motorized path that is protected from vehicle traffic.
• The installation of a median guardrail along I-75 between M-15 and Joslyn Road.
• Mill and resurface northbound I-75 between M-102 (Eight Mile Road) and 12 Mile Road, and southbound I-75 from 12 Mile to I-696.
• Bridge and pavement rehabilitation on I-75 Business Loop (Square Lake Road) between I-75 and M-1 (Woodward Avenue).
