June 28, 2007 ─ The Michigan Commission on
Spanish-Speaking Affairs (COSSA) in the Department of Labor & Economic
Growth (DLEG) is seeking nominations for the 2007 Hispanic Entrepreneur of the
Year Award. The recipient will be honored at the Hispanic Business Expo luncheon
on September 28 at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center in Detroit.
"Hispanic
entrepreneurs and businesses all across the state are contributing
significantly to Michigan's economic resurgence
and transformation," said COSSA Chairman José L. R. Reyna. "In our second year
of the award, we are excited to honor one of many deserving Hispanics who are
shining examples of success in Michigan business and who
exemplify entrepreneurial determination."
The
nominating criteria are:
- The individual must demonstrate appreciable
economic growth to the Hispanic business and civic community as a result
of his or her efforts.
- The individual's business must be
viable with a track record of success that can serve as a role model for
other Hispanic entrepreneurs.
- The individual must demonstrate a
history of civic engagement and contribution to the quality of life for
Hispanics through community service.
"Small businesses are the heart, soul, and backbone of Michigan's economy, doing much of the
cutting-edge work--the innovation, the risk taking, and creating most of our new
jobs," said DLEG Director Keith W. Cooley. "Hispanic small business owners are
one of the fastest growing segments in Michigan and we want to celebrate their
success that serves to inspire the entrepreneurial spirit in so many
others."
Nominations
for the award must be postmarked no later than August 31,
2007, with
