Wolf Lake State Fish Hatchery Visitor Center Announces Summer Program Schedule

The Department of Natural Resources today announced the spring/summer special program schedule for the Wolf Lake Sate Fish Hatchery Visitor Center near Kalamazoo.

  • Summer Garden Tours will be offered through the summer to teach participants about native plants and how gardeners can attract birds, butterflies and more to their gardens. Guests will tour the recently created butterfly garden and certified Monarch Way Station, featuring more than 40 species of native flowers and grasses. The tours will be offered June 10 and 25; July 10 and 30; and Aug. 5 and 20. All tours begin at 6:30 p.m. and will last approximately one hour. Reservations are required for groups of 10 or more.
  • Fun Fridays, beginning June 6 and each Friday through August, offer the opportunity for children and adults to learn about Michigan's frogs, turtles, birds and more! Programs will be at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
  • Summer Fishing Saturdays are for children ages 5 to 16. Wolf Lake is pleased to again offer this catch-and-release fishing program for kids each Saturday beginning June 7 and running through August. Programs are at 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. Preregistration is required.
  • 9th Annual Fish Fest is scheduled for July 19-20, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. The festival is free of charge and this year's event promises to be bigger and better than ever. Fun for the entire family.

The Wolf Lake Fish Hatchery Visitor Center is located in Mattawan at Hatchery Road and M-43, six miles west of US-131. For information about events and programs, contact Shana McMillan at (269) 668-2876.
