Nov. 2, 2009

The Gillette Sand Dune Visitor Center in P.J. Hoffmaster State Park in Muskegon is now accepting photographs for its winter photo contest. The theme for the 2010 winter contest is Michigan winter landscapes.

Each photograph submitted must be of a Michigan winter scene in nature void of man-made structures. All entries must come from amateur photographers only. Each photo must have the name of the scene identified on the back. Photos that do not meet the criteria will be disqualified and returned.

Photos must include the name, e-mail and phone number of the photographer on the back. The minimum print size is 8x10 and the maximum size accepted is 11x16. All entries must be matted without frame or glass, and mattes should securely adhere to the photograph. There is a $4 fee required per entry, with a limit of two entries per person. Entry deadline is Jan. 20, 2010.

Photographs will be returned after Feb. 20, if an envelope large enough to accommodate the photograph and stamped with adequate postage is provided. Photographers may choose to pick up their photographs. All photos not picked up by March 20 will become the property of the Gillette Nature Association.

Judging is conducted by an impartial team of volunteers knowledgeable of photography. Prizes will be provided by the contest sponsor the Gillette Nature Association. Winners will be announced on Jan. 23. Winning entries will be on display at the Visitor Center until Feb. 20.

Entries may be hand-delivered or mailed to the Gillette Sand Dune Visitor Center, P.J. Hoffmaster State Park, 6585 Lake Harbor Rd., Muskegon, MI 49441. Entry fee checks should be made payable to the Gillette Nature Association. The Gillette Nature Association is a nonprofit organization that provides monetary and volunteer support to the Gillette Visitor Center.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is committed to the conservation, protection, management, accessible use and enjoyment of the State's natural resources for current and future generations.
