Agency: Natural Resources

Oct. 29, 2007

During November, all registered campers at the Brighton State Recreation Area will receive a voucher redeemable at the Tanger Outlet Center in Howell for a savings coupon book for the stores at the shopping center.

Department of Natural Resources Parks and Recreation staff also will be on hand at the Tanger Outlet Center Food Court the weekends of Nov. 24-25 and Dec. 8-9 to provide the opportunity to purchase 2008 annual state park permits for the outdoor lover on your gift list.

The Tanger Outlet Center features 75 brand name and designer outlet stores and is conveniently located at I-96 and M-59 at Exit 133 in Howell. For more information on Tanger Outlet Centers, call (517) 545-0500 or visit their Web site at www.tangeroutlet.com.

Should hunting for the antlered form of bucks be more to your liking, Brighton State Recreation Area offers more than 4,500 acres of public hunting land. Archery and shotgun hunting are allowed within most areas of the park during the designated season with a valid hunting license.

In addition to the Brighton State Recreation Area, there are five other public hunting areas within a half-hour drive of the campground. Pinckney and Island Lake State Recreation Areas, as well as Gregory, Oak Grove and Hillcrest State Game Areas, all are open to hunting with a valid license.

Bishop Lake campground within the Brighton State Recreation Area will remain open this November for modern camping, including modern restrooms and showers, with electricity available on every site. The park also has five rustic cabins available that can sleep between 8 to 20 people.

Livingston County provides some of the best deer hunting in southern Michigan, and prospects for this season are looking great, according to DNR wildlife officials.

The Brighton State Recreation Area is located at 6360 Chilson Rd., approximately four and one-half miles west of Howell. For more information regarding this offer, contact the park at (810) 229-6566. For camping reservations, call (800) 44-PARKS or register online at www.midnrreservations.com.

All motor vehicles entering a state park or recreation area must display a Motor Vehicle Permit, available for purchase at the park entrance. Cost is $24 for a resident annual and $6 for a resident daily. A nonresident annual is $29 and a nonresident daily is $8.

The DNR is committed to the conservation, protection, management, use and enjoyment of the state's natural resources
for current and future generations.
