Michigan State Waterways Commission to Meet July 18 in Mackinaw City

The Michigan State Waterways Commission will hold its regular meeting on Saturday, July 18, at the Mackinaw City Recreation Complex, located at 508 W. Central Ave. in Mackinaw City.

The commission's Finance Subcommittee and Operations Subcommittee will meet at 1 p.m. The regular meeting will begin at 2 p.m. with a brief introduction by the commission chair and public comment. The commission will then receive brief updates and reports on various boating projects and operations, legislative updates that affect the boating program, review a proposed boating facility, land acquisition policy, and subcommittee reports. Following the meeting will be a celebration to dedicate the new Straits State Harbor at 6 p.m.

The Michigan State Waterways Commission is an advisory group, created by Public Act 320 of 1947, to address issues concerning public boating opportunities in the State of Michigan, including the acquisition, construction and maintenance of recreational harbors, channels, docking and launching facilities, administration of commercial docks in the Straits of Mackinac, and to advise on regulations and grant funding for the Great Lakes Harbors of Refuge.
