Agency: Transportation

WHAT: The County Road Association of Michigan (CRAM), the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), the Michigan Infrastructure and Transportation Association (MITA), and the Michigan Department of State Police (MSP) will host a joint press event on the steps of the Capitol Building in Lansing to help raise awareness about the potential danger of driving distracted through Michigan work zones.

WHO: CRAM, MDOT, MITA and MSP staff

WHEN: Wednesday, April 17, 2013 10:30 - 11 a.m.

WHERE: Capitol Building Capitol Avenue at Michigan Avenue Lansing

Special accommodations: 888-304-6368

BACKGROUND: Traffic safety officials will host the media event to raise awareness during National Work Zone Awareness Week, April 15-19, and share recently compiled 2012 crash data for Michigan.

Captain Safety, a 12-foot-tall construction barrel super hero, will make an appearance. He will be traveling the state to educate motorists on the dangers of distracted driving.

The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) has produced a PSA that reminds the public about the importance of work zone safety. The video can be found on the AASHTO YouTube channel at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1R_OAf5yVRM.
