M-53 detour in Bad Axe to remain in effect during Labor Day weekend

PROJECT DETAILS:
The current M-53 detour will remain in place during the Labor Day weekend and is expected to last through mid-September.

Work on this $2.7 million reconstruction project from Outer Drive to M-142 in Bad Axe began in early April at the M-53/M-142 intersection. Phase two, which extends from Outer Drive east to the M-53/M-142 intersection, began in early June and is ongoing.

Overall, work includes pavement reconstruction; curb and gutter, storm and sanitary sewer, water main, and traffic signal upgrades; driveways; and Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant sidewalk and ramp improvements.

TRAFFIC IMPACT:
The following detours will remain in place through mid-September:

  • Northbound M-53: north on Pinnebog Road, east on M-142, and north on M-53.
  • Southbound M-53: west on M-142, south on Pinnebog Road, and south on M-53.

Single-lane closures will be in effect from September through October.
