September 4, 2013 -- On Monday, Sept. 9, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will move into a new phase on the project to replace a section of the retaining wall on northbound M-10 (Lodge Freeway) at Schaefer Highway in Detroit. All work on this $1 million investment is scheduled to be completed in late November.
Beginning Monday, crews will install a continuous right-lane closure on northbound M-10 at Schaefer Highway to allow crews to begin removing and replacing the retaining wall. The continuous lane closure is scheduled to be removed in late October.
Last summer, a section of the northbound retaining wall just north of Schaefer Highway was noticeably tilting toward the freeway. MDOT crews installed tilt sensors to confirm the visual findings. Since then, the sensors detected an additional tilt of up to one-half inch, prompting the need for immediate repair.
In June, crews closed the northbound M-10 service drive to further investigate the issue and determine the proper repair.
