Registration now open for 2013 Asset Management Conference in Escanaba

September 25, 2013 -- State and local officials interested in learning how to apply asset management principals to the infrastructure in their jurisdictions still have time to register for the 2013 Transportation Asset Management Conference on Thursday, Oct. 24, at Bay College in Escanaba.

Sponsored by the Michigan Transportation Asset Management Council (TAMC), this year's fall conference will include presentations on the TAMC's current and future efforts, and asset management guidance to local agencies. Presentations also will include asset management perspectives following this year's theme, "Asset Management - A Clear Path to Measuring Performance," including:

  • Clearing the Path for Performance: Randy Van Portfliet, Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT);
  • Performance Measures, Progress Towards MAP-21: Mark Van Port Fleet, MDOT;
  • Regional Asset Management Program: Nathan Fazer, Eastern Upper Peninsula Regional Planning & Development Commission;
  • usRAP and Asset Management; The Right Fix is the Safe Fix: Dr. John Daly, Genesee County Road Commission;
  • Practical Application of an Asset Management Plan: Brian Gutowski, Emmet County Road Commission; and
  • Techniques for Stabilizing Gravel Roads: Rick Kell, U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service.

There also will be a keynote panel on managing performance from a leadership perspective featuring panelists John Niemela, County Road Association of Michigan (CRAM); Daniel Gilmartin, Michigan Municipal League (MML); Don Stypula, Michigan Association of Regions (MAR); Randy Van Portfliet, MDOT; and moderator Dr. Tim Colling, Michigan Technological University (MTU).

The program is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. (with registration beginning at 7:30 a.m.) and conclude at 3:30 p.m. The event will be in Room 952 in the Joseph Heirman University Center on the Bay College campus, 2001 N. Lincoln Road, Escanaba.

Registration is $30 for the first participant from public agencies, and $20 for each additional participant from the same agency. For private companies and consultants, registration is $100 per participant. Registration includes breakfast, lunch and all refreshments.

A block of rooms have been reserved under "Asset Management Conference" at the Comfort Suites in Escanaba, which will be held until Monday, Oct. 7. Rates are $75 per person, or $85 for two. Contact the hotel directly at 906-786-9630 for reservations.
