Department of Natural Resources (DNR) officials announced today that a portion of the Pere Marquette State Rail Trail in Osceola County will close due to bridge repair work on two bridges spanning the Hersey River. The section of rail trail closed will be from 180th Avenue to 200th Avenue, approximately 1.5 miles east of Reed City in Osceola County. Work on these bridges is weather-dependent; however, the trail will likely be closed to traffic on April 29, and re-open on June 10.

Work to be completed for both bridge structures includes widening the bridges, re-decking the bridge surfaces, installing improved railing systems and improving the bridge approaches.

These bridge improvement projects are funded from Michigan's snowmobile program. Questions may be directed to Todd Neiss, DNR recreation specialist, at 231-775-9727, ext. 6045. Information regarding other trail opportunities may be found on the DNR's website at www.michigan.gov/dnrtrails.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is committed to the conservation, protection, management, use and enjoyment of the state's natural and cultural resources for current and future generations. For more information, go to www.michigan.gov/dnr.
