Sept. 19, 2013

Bay City State Recreation Area will host its Trunk-or-Treat program from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the day-use area of the park for three harvest festivals on Sept. 28, Oct. 5 and Oct. 12.

Parents and their kids enjoy a safe afternoon of trick-or-treating at Bay City Recreation Area. Each year, traditional trick-or-treating is available to campers, and this "Trunk-or-Treat" program allows non-campers to participate as well. Parents who are not camping can hand out candy, and bring their children to trick-or-treat in both the campground and the day-use area on these Saturdays. Parents wishing to hand out candy can set up their vehicles in the day-use area of the park near the new spray park. Children can collect treats from other parents in the day-use parking lot as well as from campers handing out candy in the campground.

A valuable prize will be given for best-decorated vehicle participating in Trunk-or-Treat, although parents are not required to decorate their vehicles. Participants are encouraged to bring enough candy for 250 to 500 children, though there is no required amount.

For more information about this or other events at Bay City State Recreation Area, visit www.michigan.gov/baycity, call 989-684-3020 or email LauingerG@michigan.gov.

A park ranger will be stationed at the permit booth to provide information and collect the entrance fee for those who have not yet purchased the Recreation Passport.

The Recreation Passport is an easy, affordable way for residents to enjoy and support outdoor recreation opportunities in Michigan. By checking "YES" for the $11 Recreation Passport ($5 for motorcycles) when renewing a license plate through the Secretary of State (by mail, kiosk, online at www.expresssos.com or at branch offices), Michigan motorists get access to state parks, recreation areas, state forest campgrounds, nonmotorized state trailhead parking and state boat launches. In addition, Recreation Passport holders can enjoy real savings at businesses and retailers that participate in the Passport Perks discount program. The Recreation Passport is valid until the next license plate renewal date. Nonresidents can purchase the Recreation Passport ($30.50 annual; $8.40 daily) at any state park or recreation area or through the Michigan e-Store at www.michigan.gov/estore.
