Brown Promoted to Captain of Fifth District

LANSING. Michigan State Police (MSP) Director Col. Kriste Kibbey Etue is pleased to announce the promotion of Insp. Michael Brown to captain and commander of the Fifth District in southwest Michigan. Brown replaces Capt. Greg Krusinga who recently retired from the department.
As district commander, Brown is responsible for overseeing the delivery of uniformed MSP services to four MSP posts covering the counties of Allegan, Barry, Berrien, Branch, Calhoun, Cass, Kalamazoo, St. Joseph and Van Buren. Uniformed services include traffic patrols, criminal investigations, emergency services and staffing for task forces and special investigation units.
Prior to his promotion, Brown served as inspector and senior assistant executive deputy director of the Field Service Bureau (FSB) at the MSP headquarters in Lansing. Brown was responsible for providing oversight in the areas of training, equipment and personnel to the FSB. The FSB provides direction and leadership to enlisted and civilian employees assigned to the department's districts and posts.
Brown joined the department in 1988, graduating as a member of the 103rd Trooper Recruit School. Prior to joining the department, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Brown is also a graduate of the Michigan State University School of Staff and Command.
Brown has served at the St. Joseph and Bridgman posts, as well as commander of the Niles and Paw Paw posts. He has also served as a member of the Southwest Enforcement Team (S.W.E.T.) multijurisdictional narcotics task force in Van Buren County. During his 25-year career, Brown has held the ranks of trooper, detective trooper, detective sergeant, detective lieutenant, first lieutenant and inspector.
Brown and his wife, Lori, live in Stevensville with their three children.
