St. Joseph Physician Summarily Suspended

Contact: Mario Morrow 517-373-9280

Agency: Licensing and Regulatory Affairs

March 27, 2013. The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) has immediately suspended the osteopathic medicine and surgery license of Charles Ray Alderdice, D.O., of St. Joseph based on his conviction in the Fifth Judicial District Court, Berrien County, Michigan.

On October 12, 2012, Alderdice was convicted of Controlled Substance-Drug-False Prescription, a misdemeanor. The conviction was the result of Alderdice prescribing inhalers to a patient and charging the patient's ex-wife's insurance. As a result of the conviction, Alderdice was sentenced to 30 days in jail if he failed to pay $485.00 in fees and costs.

On March 21, 2013, LARA issued an order summarily suspending Alderdice's license pursuant to the Public Health Code which provides for the mandatory summary suspension of a health professional's license upon the conviction of a felony, a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for a maximum term of two years, or a controlled substance-related conviction. Further, the order allowed LARA to seize all controlled substances owned or possessed by Alderdice.
