DEQ offers water quality monitoring grants

The DEQ today announced more than $400,000 in grant funds available to help communities monitor and improve water quality.  

Local government and nonprofit entities are eligible for funding and are encouraged to apply. Up to $250,000 is available for water quality monitoring projects, and $200,000 is available for two-year inland beach grants. The grants are funded by 2012 Clean Michigan Initiative-Clean Water Fund monies.

The grant application package is available online at

www.michigan.gov/deq/0,1607,7-135-3313---,00.html, or by contacting Denise Page of DEQ's Water Resources Division, at 517-335-6969 or paged@michigan.gov.

The grant application package outlines funding priorities and offers help for developing a proposal, including the criteria by which proposals will be evaluated. Applicants also will find instructions for items that should be included with the grant application.

Applications are due by May 11, 2012
