28Updated property damage numbers, offers of more site visits in Upper Peninsula's Duck Lake Fire
The latest estimate is that there are 134 properties within the perimeter of the fire. Ninety-nine of those properties have been inspected. Inspections are ongoing, and the entire fire has not yet been inventoried. Of the 100 properties inspected, 31 properties have suffered losses. On the 31 properties that suffered losses — some with multiple structures — 95 structures were lost.
28Fire danger remains high in northern Michigan, despite rain
A continuing lack of moisture this spring has resulted in exceptional action by Gov. Rick Snyder. On May 25, the governor ordered a ban on outdoor burning in 49 counties in the northern part of Michigan. The Department of Natural Resources warns all residents that although rain has fallen in some areas, the risk of wildfires remains very high.
