Social Media Policy

The state of Michigan encourages the use of social media, social networking sites and emerging web tools to enhance transparency, communication, customer service, collaboration and information exchange among the state of Michigan and the public.

Every day people discuss, debate, and engage with the state in many online conversations. The state of Michigan recognizes the importance of participating in these conversations and is committed to ensuring we listen and participate in meaningful ways.

Executive Branch

The state of Michigan’s 1340.00.130.03 Social Media Standard establishes a statewide policy for the creation, use, and management of state of Michigan social media, social networking accounts for Executive Branch Departments, Agencies and Sub-units. Employee use of social media is guided by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget’s policy 1340.00.130.02 Acceptable Use of Information Technology Standard. Departments may have supplemental policies on employee use of social media. 

Judicial Branch

The Michigan Supreme Court, State Court Administrative Office (SCAO) has published Michigan Trial Court Standards and Guidelines for Websites and Social Media.
