Find a Self-Service Station for fast license plate tab renewals
Scan. Pay. Go!
Renewing vehicle tabs is a snap thanks to automated Self-Service Stations now in dozens of Secretary of State offices across Michigan. The ATM-style machines give customers the ability to renew their vehicle tabs without waiting for service at the counter.
Customers simply follow the touch-screen directions and scan the bar code on their renewal notice. Upon verifying the information and accepting the credit card, the Self-Service Station prints a vehicle tab and receipt. Transactions usually can be accomplished in seconds.
For your convenience, the best way to use a self-service station is to have:
- A renewal notice with their correct name, address, vehicle information and personal identification number (PIN) or the phrase "insurance verified electronically" printed on it.
- A valid Visa, MasterCard or Discover credit card or a branded debit card. A nominal processing fee will be charged.
Self-Service Stations cannot be used to renew Gross Vehicle Weight tabs.
The Self-Service Stations are the latest in a long list of technological improvements. ExpressSOS.com lets you make a variety of transactions from home, including driver’s license renewals, address changes, and a “print ‘n’ go” feature in which you can print a copy of your new registration to use until your tabs arrive in the mail.
