Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land unveiled a convenient service starting today that lets customers purchase their individual driving records at Secretary of State PLUS offices across Michigan.

Land announced the service while visiting the South Berrien County PLUS Office in Niles, the newest of Michigan's enhanced offices.

"Today's customers are busier than ever before," Land said. "Our constant goal is to make their lives easier. Offering driving records on site does just that. Customers no longer have to mail in a form or drive to Lansing. They can now drop by any PLUS office, show their driver's license, pay a small fee and walk out with their driving record in hand. It's that simple.

"Timeliness is critical, especially if you need a copy of your driving record as part of a job application. We understand those needs and that's why we're working harder to better accommodate you."

Driving records detail violations, points, suspensions and other aspects of a person's driving history. People requesting the records typically need them for job applications, to negotiate car insurance rates, or to assess the accuracy of the record.

Customers may only purchase their personal driving records. Along with the document, customers will receive a one-page guide that explains how to read the record. The guide also is available online at www.Michigan.gov/sos.

The service costs $8 per record. In addition to PLUS offices, the service will be offered at Secretary of State SUPER!Centers later this fall.

Land created PLUS offices and SUPER!Centers to provide customers with expanded hours and other benefits.

In addition to the South Berrien County PLUS Office, other PLUS offices are currently open in Eaton, Mecosta, Roscommon, Sanilac and Wayne counties. They offer benefits such as extended Wednesday hours and the availability of an on-site customer service specialist to assist customers with transactions.

In the future, PLUS offices and SUPER!Centers will give customers the option of paying by credit card and using a self-service station for registration renewals.
