If you are a Michigan resident who is temporarily residing outside the state of Michigan and have lost or misplaced your Michigan title of ownership for your vehicle you will need to submit the following:
-
An application for Certificate of Title and Registration (TR-11L)
must be completed and signed by the owner of the vehicle.
-
A completed and signed Duplicate Title Questionnaire
(BDVR-20).
-
Proof of ownership, such as a previous validated Michigan registration.
-
A security interest may be added by noting it in the proper area of the application (TR-11L). If you are removing a secured interest,
DO NOT complete this portion of the application. To remove a secured interest, a termination statement must be submitted with the application.
-
If the replacement title is to be mailed to an address other than the one shown on the application, a Special Mailing Form (TR-114) will need to be filled out and mailed with the duplicate title application.
-
If a dealer is applying for
the replacement title, it will be necessary to submit a copy of the dealer license and telephone number of the dealership. Also needed is the full name, date of birth and driver license number of the person using the power of attorney. If the person using power of attorney is not the owner shown on the dealer license, verification is needed that the person using power of attorney is an employee and authorized agent of the dealership.
A check or money order in the amount of $15.00, made payable to the "State of
Michigan", must accompany each replacement title application in order to process the transaction. Please mail your completed
and signed forms, proof of ownership, and payment to:
Michigan Department of State
Out of State Resident Services Unit
7064 Crowner Drive
Lansing, MI 48918
(517) 322-1473
Online
You may also request a replacement title online through
ExpressSOS.
Ordering a replacement title online costs $15 and the title can only be issued
to the owner listed on the title document. Pay with Visa, MasterCard or Discover
credit or branded debit card. Replacement titles ordered online cannot be mailed
to an out-of-state address - only to your home (residence) address.
If you have submitted a change of address to the Secretary of State's Office
within the last 10 days or have an appointment of agent or power of attorney
designation, you cannot order a replacement title online.
