Address Change on a Registration

When a vehicle owner moves, the owner must change the address on their driver license as soon as possible at a Secretary of State Branch Office. By changing the address on your driver license, any vehicles with your driver license number on the registration will automatically be updated on the Secretary of State's record with your new address. It is only necessary for the owner to write the new address on the registration(s).

When you renew your license plate and the address needs to be corrected, you may simply cross out the previous address and write the new address on the registration. This will alert the Department of State to correct the address when the renewal registration is processed. You are not required to change the address on your vehicle titles.
